M/I Homes is a Chicagoland building company that has been in business since 1976. They were originally based in Columbus, OH but have expanded to several different states, which included IL. The company was started by cousins Irving and Melvin Schottenstein, and their current CEO is Irving’s son, Robert Schottenstien. 

Since the beginning, the company has had a prestigious reputation being the #1 builder in Ohio and receiving several other awards including “Builder of the Year” in 2008 and in 2010, they received the “Best Business award” for the 8th year in a row. 

The company is currently in the process of building the Silo Bend neighborhood in Lockport, IL that will have a grand opening Nov. 4. 

Their homes are built with a Whole Home Building Standard and are Whole Homes Certified. This means their standards are constantly evolving to be more efficient and have the latest building technology and practices. Their homes are 100% certified with environmental efficiency to be weather-tight and money saving.  

The company is confident in what they do but all their homes come with a warranty that is “a one-year, foundation-to-rooftop service warranty; all the manufacturer’s warranties on what’s built into the home, and one of the industry’s leading long term Transferable Structural Warranties,” according to their website. 

Silo Bend is their current project located in Lockport, IL at the northwest intersection of W 167th Street and S Cedar Road. This subdivision offers both single family and two-story town homes. Based on their website, they have plans that are $370,000 and up. There are 11 different models to choose from, all of which can be found on their website. 

Since the start of their company, Irving said the core value of the company was “always remember to treat our customers right,” and that value has stayed with the company since.
