The town of Homer Glen is known as one the first townships to be settled in Will County. Settlers started coming to the area in 1830 due to the timber in and around the area.

Homer Glen is in a central location that helped it prosper, being located 25 miles from the city of Chicago. Today, there are two access points to I-355, which makes getting to the city even easier.
Homer Glen was not incorporated until April of 2001.

We will strive to maintain open space, preserve our unique rural character, and safeguard our natural resources,” according to their mission statement on the Homer Glen website.
Homer Glen is often seen as one of the most desirable places to live, as it is a great place to raise a family, and an exceptional place to work and live, according to the Homer Township website. There is an abundance of open space, friendly neighborhoods, historical features and lots of commercial businesses.
Homer Glen is also part of the “Heritage Corridor” along with their neighboring community of Lemont, IL.
Homer Glen, IL is recognized as a part of the International Dark Sky Association. This is because the community has dedicated itself to preserving the dark sky to avoid light pollution and to promote a starry sky view, according to the Homer Glen website.
Due to this, they host a star gazing event to honor their preservation and dedication to this distinction.
