Location of Lockport
Lockport is located about 36 miles south of Chicago. Conveniently located right off of I-355, it has easy access to the city via I-55. Lockport’s rich history stems from its strategic location along the I&M Canal, playing a crucial role in shaping Chicago’s development into the vibrant city it is today.
Schools
There are two Lockport Townhsip High Schools, both are located in Lockport, but are home to students from Crest Hill and Homer Glen as well. Central is also known as the Freshman Center, and East is for sophomore through senior students.
District 92 consists of four schools. Walsh School is for early childhood, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students. Reed School is for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Ludwig School is for 4th and 5th grade students. Oak Prairie Junior High School is for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
District 91 consists of two schools. Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd grade students attend Milne Grove Elementary School. 4th through 8th grade students attend Kelvin Grove Middle School.
District 89 consists of only one school, Fairmont School which has students from Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade.
Places of Interest
Lockport is home to Dellwood Park, a 150-acre park with picnic shelters, playgrounds & a disc-golf course, plus athletic fields & trails.
Legacy Adventure Park is a paintball park located adjacent to Dellwood. They also have other options including air soft and outdoor laser tag.
Lockport is also home to HellsGate Haunted House. This award winning haunted house is a must see. It opens in the season at the end of September and runs through Halloween night.
The Gaylord Building is a historical building that played a pivotal role in the construction of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. It is the perfect place to learn about the history of Lockport and the I&M Canal.
The Illinois State Museum – Lockport Gallery features changing exhibitions of art created by past and contemporary Illinois artists and artisans.
